As we have said, we build one of a kind, hand crafted, traditional style, (real) log cabins. In keeping with tradition that has truly stood the test of time, we do it the old fashion way, from scratch. We start with select yellow and/or white pine logs of 12" + in diameter. Yellow and/or white pine is our species of choice due to it's strength, durability, and grain texture. It's fast drying properties keep shrinkage, settling, and checking, to a bare minimum.
Logs are then sawn to a thickness of 6" while keeping the heart or (core) boxed in,(centered), to maintain strength. Remaining bark is then peeled to allow the chinking to adhere well when applied.
We then notch up the log shell, or walls, using our own notch that we call the Blind-V. This notching method securely locks each log in all four directions. Once the log is set into place, it cannot shift out of position. We can produce any notch, however, our Blind-V notch is very popular.
As the log shell is notched up, doors and windows are placed per customers specs. Once the shell is complete, the openings are trimmed to exact measurements so they will accommodate the customers doors and windows properly.
When the log shell is complete and everything is trimmed , it's ready to tag. We tag each log using our easy to follow tagging system. This system disspells any fears of getting logs out of placement order.
With the log shell completed and tagged, it's ready to take down and load on the customers or our shipper's trailer. Once the log shell arrives on site it's ready to be set up and the fun begins. Whether you set it up, we do, or a contractor, you will be amazed at how quickly and well it goes together. Now the log cabin you have dreamed of is taking shape and becoming a reality right before your eyes.
